      Hardware support

The library of components that are compatible with the Bewan Software is huge and regularly enriched with new hardware supports. From the time a new module arrives on the market, Bewan adapts and ports the relevant pilots if requested. The porting takes just a few weeks.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of the hardware components currently supported by Bewan Software.

    • ADSL core chips
    • Infineon Danube
    • Broadcom 6348, 6358, 6362
    • Ikanos/Centillium Palladia
    • SLIC
    • Infineon
      – DuSLIC
      – DuSLIC-xt2
    • Wi-Fi
    • Ralink
      – RT61
      – RT2860
      – RT2880F
    • Atheros
      – Most of a/b/g/n modules (mini-PCI and onBoard)
    • USB
    • VIA 6212
    • Cable core chips
    • Texas Instrument Puma 5 (docsis 3)
    • Webcam core chips
    • Prolific
    • Switch Ethernet
    • IC+
      – IC-PLUS IP175C
    • Infineon
      – Samurai ADM6996
    • Realtek
      – RTL8305
      – RTL8306
      – RTL8306SD
    • Atheros

    Ongoing support

Bewan is currently working on support for the new generation Infineon ARX processor. This offers the benefit of being compatible with several GigaBit ports and allows the design of new very high speed home gateways (FTTH and GPON).

    Porting

At the operator’s request, the Bewan middleware may be ported to new platforms, for example:
    - Platforms similar to those already supported by Bewan, but one of the elements is modified (for costs reasons, for example);
    - New platforms designed to create innovative, value-added services portfolios;
    - An installed base of heterogeneous platforms for which an operator wants to deploy a unified range of services.

Principal components and & Estimated Porting Time
Porting the Bewan middleware encompasses the adaptation of the following hardware elements:
    Component Porting time
    Processor  6 to 10 weeks
    Wi-Fi (onBoard / mini PCI) 3 to 7 weeks
Flash driver 2 to 4 weeks
    GPIO 2 to 4 weeks
    LED/Button driver  2 to 4 weeks
    VoIP (DAA/SLIC) driver 4 to 7 weeks
DDR RAM  2 to 4 weeks
Interrupt PCI 2 to 4 weeks
SWITCH Ethernet 3 to 8 weeks

The right-hand column indicates the mean estimation of the time required to adapt the software layers that form the basis of the component. This estimation varies according to the hardware’s functions (experience with other components from the suppliers, pilot available in an open format, etc). It is also important to note that the adaptation of several components may be made parallel to optimise and therefore reduce the global porting time.
